Sumeru is.... well. There's two parts of it. In the east, it's lush rainforest. But to the west, there's a very large desert region. It's mostly unpopulated except for monsters now, but a long time ago there used to be a kingdom there called Ay-Khanoum where both humans and jinn lived together. It's the desert there this reminds me a little of.
