The way Kenny keeps playing around with the gun rather than putting it away keeps Hijikata on edge, and he has half a mind to threaten to rot him to dust and ashes like that snowskeleton if he doesn't put it away, but he has a feeling that Kenny might take that as incentive to shoot him and steal the vehicle, so he bites the remark back.
