Sacrificing people without repercussions is addictive. It makes you feel like a god. I know because that's how my mother works. That's how she feels. She sacrifices people, whole swaths of them, to make even a small gain. To get closer to what she wants.
That kind of power is intoxicating. I've lived with it. It raised me.
Like I said, it's my trauma talking. But someone willing to sacrifice human lives for the sake of profit? To order coworkers to clean up each other's blood and corpses without remorse?
It takes someone who has dehumanized their fellow people, turned them in their minds from fellow people to tools. Undoing that mindset? That takes a lot, if they aren't too far gone.
