Wash is right: Maine has been thrown by the whole day. He soldiers on, of course. (When does he ever stop soldiering on?) He has handled being thrown into a new world much as he would any other mission: gathering intel, determining strengths, shoring up weaknesses.

But the simple fact that he's treating it as a mission speaks volumes. Missions are temporary. They have set goals. They can be accomplished or failed, then Maine can move on.

This isn't like that. And truthfully, Maine has no idea how to handle it. So again, he defaults to what he knows: missions.

Then there's the matter of magic, and Maine's relative powerlessness next to it. A feeling he does not like. (A feeling Sigma preyed on.)

Then there's the fact that this world, too, is under siege. So Maine will be fighting another war. Because of course he'll fight. What else can he do?

Then there's the matter of Wash and Carolina being from the future, and Wash having lived here for a significant time.

It's a lot. All of it. But Maine doesn't know how to say, I'm overwhelmed. He only knows how to soldier on.

So, after a little pause, he says, "Wanna meet them."

Since they're important to Wash, and that's the right thing to do. A thing Maine wants to do, even though he's hungry, has been held at gunpoint by a friend, and doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.
