They'll sell to other people, but if someone like me went in we'd just get the cops called on us- or worse. They don't want our business, and some are afraid of what could be done to them if they did and were seen. [A danger of losing their business or, once again, something worse.] I can understand why a lot of them are afraid, but it doesn't make it right. The divide seems to get bigger every day, and our home is falling apart because we can't get the parts we need to repair and maintain the grid.

[It was hard not to feel terrible over being here instead of there at times, or the strange mix of feelings of wanting anyone she knew here. This place, the way people treated her in this city, just showed her it was possible for things to be better.
