[ In a moment of weakness, the splinters in his veneer pierce him deep enough that some of his present torment floods out, and he digs his fingers into Sebek's shoulder blades, returning the embrace with desperation. There was a time when he could tuck Sebek's head under his chin, but that time is long gone, and now he's the one pressing his face into Sebek's neck as he shudders.

Shudders but doesn't cry. He'll do that when he's alone. For now, he's clinging to the reminder that he has to be strong. He's the prince's knight. A protector of Briar Valley. And even if he must one day stand against Malleus to protect him and everyone else he cares about, then so be it. He'll accept that burden and at least show his father that he's strong and brave.

Though one thing does occur to him... ]

If this were a dream created by Lord Malleus, then father would be here with us. That's the best proof that we really did travel outside the bounds of our world.

[ There's no way Malleus would leave him behind intentionally. Silver also would have been able to travel into someone else's dream by now, but he's remained stationary here for many weeks instead. ]

But you're right, I do need to pull myself together. If there's a chance that Lord Malleus might overblot, we have to be ready. Did you tell him anything you told me just now?

[ He hopes Sebek had the sense not to. As much as Silver hates lying to Malleus,, he doesn't want anyone to come under danger from his wrath. All of them combined wouldn't be able to hold a candle to Malleus' strength. ]
