I would call the surprise pleasant, although I am not sure if Lord Malleus would allow me to keep a pet around the apartment.

[ Given Silver's condition, he's worried he might oversleep before he can take the fox out or give it food in the morning, leaving it to make a mess and eat the furnishing. Horses are a lot easier to look after. ]
