forgingfires: (Uncertain the reaction)

Wukong? Red Son couldn't fully believe. The Monkey King had done too much to hurt his family for Red Son to simply take him at his word. About the only reason he was willing to believe it was because he does believe Wukong would care about MK's opinion of him and Red Son made it clear he would rat him out.

And he did have enough faith in MK to think he would agree to be lied to about that would be unbelievably cruel. It was enough to help his hope not feel so desperate. That may it would not be centuries of more suffering before they would be freed. That his family would not have yet deeper scars, more lost time.

There was also another part. Another part that thought the picture Wukong painted was too good to be true. Not for his parents to tolerate him running off with the Dragon Girl with concerns for the Samadhi Fire, but to see him around them. For them to at least imply approval of his friendship.

But now he hears it from MK himself. And while things are Complicated, or at least he believed them complicated, afraid his parents would never approve of his friendship, that it was doomed to end in pain when his parents wants to conquer the world-

An outcome where the suffering was minimal.

An outcome that maybe, perhaps, the friendship was not doomed.

Perhaps he would be allowed this selfish desire.

His family safe and the desire he can have instead of selfishly hoarding in secret.

Even the dumb nickname for his father doesn't make a dent in the sudden rush the realization has.

He lets go of MK, looking shellshocked, turning to the front door, reaching for his key as he takes a few steps forward.

Then he stumbles and sinks to his knees. "Its okay," its whispered. Disbelief and hope.
