Eren knows that it's a lot to take in, and he hasn't even started. The five years between them feel like an uncrossable gulf now. Who knew so much could happen in five years? Who knew the history of the world was so bleak?
Well, a lot of people did, apparently. But only a handful of people on Paradis knew, and they'd been willing to kill to protect that secret. They probably still would be if they held any power (or were still alive, whatever).
Marley and all of that, the world that Eren still despises, can wait.
"It's real," he says instead. "The ocean." Unfortunately he's still Eren, not fifteen and brimming with passion and (a twisted sense of) idealism, but twenty and haunted. His feelings about the ocean are complicated; when he says this to Marco, it doesn't really sound like a good thing. He can't help his lingering disdain for the idea that the ocean was only another cage.
"There's something like that here. It's not quite an ocean like it would have been at home, but…well, you've never seen anything like it. Wanna go there?"
