[Who wouldn't fail the first judgement, really? Most people kill animals to survive, even just indirectly by eating them, and who hasn't smashed a mosquito or some other pesky vermin? As such, Eren's self-judgement feels much too harsh. "I can't atone for anything I've done"... what could he possibly have done that the others haven't?
Those from Eren's world all killed titans, not knowing that they were innocent people turned into monsters - and even with that knowledge, it couldn't have been avoided. According to Jean, they ended up having to fight other humans too, but it's not like they targeted innocent civilians! No one from Eren's world so much as implied that he's been anything but a friend and comrade to them.
Hijikata doesn't know what makes Eren be so unforgiving to himself, but it pains him to hear him say these things. He steps up to him and takes one of his hands.]
Eren, you shouldn't talk like that. There are far worse people in the multiverse than you. I don't think there's anything people can't atone for over time - even if for some, it'll take a damn long time.
[There definitely are some people - no one he met personally, but cruel and terror-bringing tyrants he heard about, whether historical ones or ones from other worlds (including those utter shitheads who brought about the titan apocalypse) - whom he'd want to suffer in hell for centuries if not millennia, but even they will eventually be considered fit to move on to a new existence. Who's to say Eren wouldn't be reincarnated as a bird after a few million lifetimes of torture?]
