Test Drive Meme #13

Test Drive Meme #13
LOGS | NETWORK | OOC | MEMES | NAVIGATION
You arrive in an unknown space, dressed in white clothes (player choice what kind of clothes, as long as they cover everything). Whatever was happening to you before no longer happens. It's like everything was put on a pause and you were transferred away from the situation without you realizing it happened.
The space that you find yourself in is one of these four options:
An empty landscape filled with snow and ice, almost like a blank canvas.
A field with cherry blossom trees and spring flowers.
A sunny beach near an ocean that seems never ending.
A quiet forest with falling autumn leaves.
All of the spaces seem to continue endlessly. No matter where or how far you walk it almost seems like you're not moving at all. There are no animals here - just those who happened to wake up there at the same time, in the same place. Everyone is wearing the same kind of plain, white clothes.
Despite the possible rollercoaster of emotions you might be feeling, the place somehow feels familiar. Like somehow you belong there.
And it looks like you're not alone.
After half an hour has passed the surroundings change as everyone is teleported into a room with all the other new arrivals, no matter what space they woke up in. It's a large place with plenty of seats to sit in and beverages to enjoy. Medical attention is offered to those who need it and the doctors here are very prepared for any challenging situations.
Here, in this room, everyone gets an answer to where they are and why. A hologram of a man appears at the center of the room, waiting to be heard. He brings a message on behalf of the leaders of Ellipsa. The staff nearby tells them that the message has finally been properly updated from the original one that can still be found from the records.
The Message [ Click to Expand ]
Hello, my name is Olwen. I'm one of the leaders of Ellipsa as it currently is. I'm also one of the four who summoned you here.
Our world is in trouble and we need your help. I apologize for tearing you away from your world and forcing you to come here but I hope you understand. The magic we used doesn't let us ask in advance, nor does it let us choose who we bring here. We wouldn't have resorted to it if we weren't desperate. Our world has lost the majority of power holders who kept the balance in our world and dealt with the dangers of the Segments. Just having one power holder for each Season isn't enough. That's why we have summoned you to become the new Seasonal Power Holders.
This world is composed of four Seasonal Segments. All of them represent one of the seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. They were the places we used to get our resources from, but now they're dangerous places no one should go into unless they have the power to fight back. All of them have their own sets of powerful monsters and natural catastrophes. We have recently managed to regain some footing in the segments and made them safer, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The Darkness still plagues our world, but we are constantly finding ways to fight back.
Otherworlders like you have already made great differences to the world. They have managed to find and free the dragons who in turn helped us expand the area we live in. They also managed to find the Fairy Queen and even the Mermaids and Sirens of the Great Ocean Lake are at peace due to the efforts of a few otherworlders. All of these things we couldn't have accomplished with just four power holders.
My sincere wish is that you would join us in working towards saving this world. We promise to send you home afterwards, or enable a way to travel to your world and back, as a compensation for your efforts here. You're even free to stay here, if that suits you better. This world can also be yours.
I know we're asking you a lot and that it might be hard to trust someone who just talks as a hologram, but you are always free to approach us at our guilds to talk in person.
In the arrival's hall there are also several stands with information pamphlets.
First type of stand is for the local Guilds and about the benefits of joining one.
Second type of stand is for the Welcome Center that aim to show otherworlders what the world is like and help guide people in the beginning of the journey and helps in getting settled into the new world. They even have people to help if you're unfamiliar with the new phones.
Third type of a stand has various pamphlets about businesses opened by otherworlders.
Once you get your smartphone and necessary information, you're urged to go out and find your apartment. After that whatever you want to do is up to you.
The building next door is where everyone can find their new apartments. As you enter, you're told by a friendly native that for the first two months you can live anywhere rent-free and five meals a day are paid for you. After that they get a monthly payment that helps with some of their living expenses, but otherwise they have to have a job to support themselves.
All of the apartments are comfortable, two bedroom apartments with all necessary utilities. They are also completely soundproof. Sometimes the magic system, however, does glitch and you might find yourself rooming with a stranger. This is not the intention and the staff will immediately prepare you a room of your own. But maybe having a roommate isn't all that bad?
The locals have taken upon themselves to advertise the Welcome Center that is run mostly by otherworlders. Newcomers are encouraged to visit it, but sometimes the people might think someone who has been a while is new.
Inside one finds a modern Japanese style lobby with plenty of sofas, soft seats and cushions to sit on. Anyone is welcome to just sit around and eat some home-made snacks. There are also computers for searching information and practicing technology skills. There's usually someone behind the front desk, but if no one seems to be there they might be in the kitchen behind the front desk area.
Upstairs there are many rooms that can be into familiar places for characters (not exactly the same, but similar) with futuristic technology. It's set up to help fight any homesickness and provide a quiet place to relax.
One bonus the Welcome Center provides is a gift basket with some treats, basic ingredients for making meals and some gift cards for the Underground Mall, to possibly shop for new clothes or other necessary items. All of these have been donated by volunteers to help newcomers settle in.
Of course the people working here are always looking for new volunteers to help around! There are plenty of things to do, all in the name of making otherwolders' arrival to a new world more comfortable.
Local news stations report that there's been a spike in stray animals found on the street lately needing homes. In the face of hitting capacity, the Nightwake City animal shelter is running some fundraisers in town!
First up is a petting zoo. Fenced areas have been set up in an open space in Blossomcrown Central Park. For a small donation, characters can come in and pet and feed treats to any animal found in the animal shelter, from ordinary pets to Pegasus Dogs, Trash Pandas, and elemental animals.
Of course, since the animal shelter is running this, all the animals appearing in the petting zoo are up for adoption themselves. If the visitors to the petting zoo get attached, they can always take one home! Taking their time to decide is encouraged to make sure every animal finds the right home.
The event also has a Valentine's confession wall set up outside the petting zoo. Attendees are encouraged to anonymously write seasonal confessions and post them to the wall, whether it's a love confession, a silly gripe about their partner, or a serious worry about romance. Volunteers are watching carefully to remove any inappropriate ones as soon as they go up, so don't try!
The second fundraiser is a Valentine's Day charity ball, for all you romantics out there! Ballroom dancing is the order of the day, and lessons are available if you doubt your skills. The decorations are pink, the string quartet is live, and the atmosphere is fancy. Come in your nicest clothes (or at least the nicest ones you have here) and celebrate!
There's also a dinner provided, and since it's Valentine's Day, emphasis is on the dessert. There's as much chocolate as they could harvest from the Summer Segment, but that's not all. The ongoing Delicious Syrup quest is bringing in barrels of maple syrup, and while this is mainly a Valentine's Day party, the end-of-winter festival and its customary pancake stacks are just as seasonal this time of year! We've got pancakes, maple candies, salad with maple dressing, maple-sugared sweet potatoes, and some snow and ice have been trucked in from Frostreign for frozen maple syrup on a stick.
Later in the night, the atmosphere seems to have relaxed a little, and the MCs come up to announce a change in the program. The organizers have been doing some research and decided to bring in music and dance styles to make the otherworlders feel at home! They begin to demonstrate some different dances, and the musicians start to play the songs... wait, is that Caramelldansen? Wait, they're all meme songs and dances from various times. Seems what Ellipsans catch onto is still unpredictable.
There's a rumor floating around that small wishes are being granted in Amberfall with enchanted locks. Following up on this rumor will lead everyone to a recently set up stall not far from a statue in town. Everyone who approaches the stall will be given one lock for free, though they can purchase additional ones if they'd like. These locks come in various shapes, sizes, and colors; however, they are all a padlock style lock so that they can easily attach to the fence. They're encouraged to make a wish on the lock then put it on the fence surrounding the statue. They're told that simple wishes are best - things like love, money, and luck. These wishes will be filled in the smallest, most random of ways.
Such as, if someone is wishing for love, they may encounter the person on their mind on the street and share a meaningful glance. If they wished for money, they may find some moon coins on the ground, if they wish for luck - they could get a free meal at their favorite restaurant as part of a promotion! It can manifest in so many different ways, but whatever it is - it seems like your wish was granted in such a way that it improves your day. While the wish may not be fulfilled instantly, it is fulfilled within 24 hours of it being made.
And don't worry, the locks can't be removed by anyone other than who made the wish and the one who set up the enchanted locks.
A mage wants to grant the wishes in bigger ways as he doesn't feel the smaller grants are enough. He has decided that he is going to try to layer another spell on top of the one that's already present within the locks to enhance what's been done already. However, these locks are not meant to be used like this and it overloads the capabilities of everything. Rather than one wish for everyone being granted in a little bit of a bigger way, one wish gets applied to everyone in a very big way - whether they initially put a lock on the fence or not.
People will wake up throughout this with a magical red thread attached to one of their fingers. This thread connects them to one other person that they need to find. Don't worry - no one will have any trouble finding that person, as they'll be inexplicably drawn together. Only the people who are attached to the string are going to be able to see it, as well. This string cannot be broken, removed, or cut by any means. The only way that seems to work to remove it is generating touch energy - whether it's from something as simple as holding hands to a kiss.
Some people may find, after one is removed and resolved, they could end up with another string attached to someone else, whether it's after a few hours or the following day.
At least until they find the culprit of the spell and have it undone - sending out their apologies and dismantling the stall and fence.

He grinned, giving a thumbs up at the salute. He hovered at the ready. "Lead on Sonic!" He was confident he'd be able to keep up. This wasn't a race after all. "I'll keep up with ya. I'm really looking forward to the tour!"
Make sure to check in for AC! :)
Otherwise, he is going to show him various places of interest. Restaurants, arcades, libraries, various kinds of stores on the way to Hedgehaus. Which is going to be the one long stop unless Silver shows an interest in a place.
Already done! <3 <3
He keeps pace with Sonic, drawing up alongside as the speedster points out various locations. He needed to keep an eye on where he was going otherwise he would have pulled out his phone to put markers on the map. "Okay, totally gonna check out the arcade later!" He called. That sounded like it would be a lot of fun.
no subject
"Oh, we can definitely go later! I just need money, I don't usually keep that much on me. Keeps me from spending it," he said. He is an impulsive boy and easily distracted. And sure, older Shadow is willing to provide stuff for them, but he doesn't want to take advantage of that generosity.
So budgeting it is.
no subject
"Hah!! Good strategy. I'd probably have to do the same to be honest." The young psychokinetic admitted at Sonic's words on cash. "What kind of games do you like to play there?" He asked about the arcade.
no subject
"Yeah, it takes a while to get used to having money that you can just spend on things, like its totally normal," he said with a chuckle. "Back home, I'd have to ask Tom and Maddie for it so that kept me in line, but now its just me? If I didn't have a dog whose vet bills I wanted too keep covered, who knows how well I would have restrained myself."
Also a Shadow who he keeps spoiling because he doesn't know how to indulge himself and that includes things like a BED FRAME.
"Oh, the dancing games are real fun for showing off," he said with a wide grin. "Shooters can be pretty cool. I tried the racing games, but eeeeeh, they're never fast enough, even on the hardest settings."
no subject
"Hah! I can imagine racing games wouldn't be fast enough for you." Silver laughed at that. "I so can't wait to try them all! I'm not used to fun stuff like that."
no subject
Its just bartering hadn't really been an option either.
At least Silver could interact with people sometimes. That was nice.
"They do their best, their best is just so boring," he said with an overdramatic groan. "I can show you all the best games. Oh, maybe we can talk Shadow into it too. He's probably only played old man games," he said. If even that. Was there an Atari in the base? Who can say. "Its a pretty great time. Maybe I can get a gaming console for the house, after I'm done with getting a good collection of movies."
no subject
"What's other places that you like to hang out at here?" The hedgehog wondered as they zipped around another corner and continued on. He kept up easily and wasn't even tired yet.
no subject
Or anything with Keanu. Everyone deserved to see that national treasure.
Sonic hummed. "I've been hanging around the library a lot, but that's mostly cause Shadow really likes books," he said. Listen...the separation anxiety is real. "They do have a really good graphic novel section though! Tons of comic collections and manga."
"There's also the botanical garden, or the observatory, the concert hall which I technically sneak into, but its not like I'm taking a seat, so its not too bad, there's a giant sand castle, and this whole underground mall which may or may not be a criminal underbelly, and there's this place you can go where there's actual Pokemon which is super cool!" He may have said that all in one breath.
no subject
"You know? I...actually haven't been to a movie night before." He laughed. "I probably have to catch up on as many as Shadow!" They didn't have movie theatres in his future. Plus in the present, there hadn't been much time for recreation like seeing a film. "Library sounds fun though! I like the idea of checking out history, or reading about plants and gardening. Though I don't mind the idea of checking out some comics too!"
He had to snicker again at Sonic spewing off a list of places to check out, all in one breath. He made an effort to keep a mental note on all these places. He'd heard about the Botanical Gardens before, but didn't recognize the other places.
"What's Pokemon?"
no subject
Sometimes you watch movies and throw popcorn around and quote the movie. Sometimes you watch movies the first night back from the hospital because you're all dead tired, but not tired enough to Sleep.
"I can show you the graphic novel section. You can also see my Shadow there sometimes. He likes reading a lot. I think he likes historical fiction, I see him read a lot of books like that," he said. "We also have a garden at our house! You should check it out."
As Silver will learn, this Sonic Talks. Which is saying something when Sonic isn't known for being a Quiet Sort.
"Ummmm, okay! So. Take a normal animal. Then take us. And then somewhere in the middle, there's Pokemon. They've got superpowers and super durable and they're smarter than most animals, but they're not like making society smart, and also they like fighting and proving their strength a lot. They're like a species that are just real gung ho about sparring, at least if the anime isn't lying, probably should check in with them about that part, BUT they do make super cool pet friend things," he said.
no subject
"He likes historical fiction huh? That sounds interesting." Though he visibly brightened. "Ohhh lucky! You have a garden at your house? Nice! I'm planning on eventually checking out the Botanical Gardens. Maybe finding a place I can buy a bunch of plants for my apartment for a sorta indoor garden!" Silver wasn't as much of a constant chatterbox like Sonic was, but when he was excited about something he could be.
Sonic's description of Pokemon was really fascinating! "Wow...they sound really cool!" He said with clear interest. "So pet buddies that have super powers and like to spar? Do you have one Sonic?"
no subject
Sonic nodded. "I think so. I don't think he'd keep choosing those kind of books if he didn't. I keep thinking of asking if he wants to read them aloud, because it can be real hard to read all those blocks of words, but I'm pretty sure I could listen to him talk all day." Sometimes the filter is lacking or maybe Sonic would realize that isn't a normal thing to say. "But maybe he'd like to talk history stuff with someone whose real interested in it too."
He nods. "Mostly flowers, but they're really pretty! And the Botanical Gardens are great too. I think the Segments are prettier, but they also have monsters and older Shadow gets real fussy about me going out alone in monster infested territory," he said. Dadow is real. "Having plants inside would be cool too! I just dunno if I could take care of them. I'd either over or underwater them. I can't check in with plants if I remembered to do the thing." Ozzy, at least, can't die if Sonic feeds him an extra meal because he can't be sure if he fed him already.
"Wellllll....not yet. But I have been talking with this Todedemaru. I felt bad just throwing the ball at him, so I figured I'd make friends the old fashion way!"
no subject
"Yeah I'd be happy to talk history stuff with him if he wants." He said finally with a grin. "I mean, the history I know is probably different from what he knows, but hey, history is history! I like it all really." He shrugged as he zipped alongside Sonic. "That's one thing about this place. I get the opportunity to learn about a bunch of different worlds and times." He'd probably get ample time to geek out about it too later.
At the notion that 'older Shadow' was worried if Sonic wanted to go out into the segments alone amused him. He uttered a 'pffft' and waved a hand. "If you ever wanna go kick some monster butt uh....I mean, explore the segments, I don't mind going with you! Stuff like that is more fun with a buddy anyway." Yeah, he said what he said and that wasn't a slip of the tongue either. The twinkle in his eyes said so.
"One of my first stops is gonna be the Botanical Gardens. I heard there's a shop attached to it, and I plan on taking some plants back to the place I'm staying at." Silver admitted. "Back home I had a victory garden. I had flowers but I was also growing vegetables. Not long before I was brought here though it got destroyed. Battle aftermath. Ugh. Long story." He sighed. "I cleaned up the debris already but hadn't had a chance to replant anything."
The whole talk of Pokemon definitely got him curious. "A...Todedemaru? What kind of Pokemon is that? I'd be curious to befriend one, but I've never had a pet or anything like that before...."
no subject
"I mean, that's pretty also to historical fiction. Its just real historical fiction stuff!" He said. "I'm sure he'll get something out of it that he likes from the fiction-fiction. And yeah! This place is great for learning all sorts of new stuff. Like getting to learn about our species just BEING on Earth, that was wild to learn."
He's honestly kind of jealous, but! We ignore those thoughts!
Sonic raised an eyebrow at that. "Oh ho. Does someone have a buddy~?" The way Silver's face lit up, it had to be someone special!
"What's a victory garden? Is it like...a garden you plant after you get a victory?" he asked. Clearly there were flowers and vegetables, but what made it a victory??? "At least you'll have people to help you replant if anything happens here."
"They're a steel and electric type and they look like the non-talking hedgehogs," he said, making a small oval with his hands to demonstrate a real hedgehog.
no subject
"Hey! Uh what me??" He waved a hand. "I mean that considering I grew up mostly alone, I'd prefer to work with friends. It's just....more fun that way!" He sighed. "But yeah, I have friends back home in present day that I miss." One especially. But he wasn't saying that out loud.
"Yeah, that's right!" He said in response to the question about the Victory Garden. "We had a big win against Dr. Eggman, and I decided to make a garden. There was flowers and vegetables too. People considered it my Garden but to be honest, I considered it everyone's Garden."
The talk of a hedgehog like pokemon intrigued him. "Wait...was that what you were talking about? Non-talking hedgehogs?" Apparently going by how Sonic was holding his hands, they were small.
no subject
Sonic was teasing, but his expression softens at the explanation. "It is," he agreed. "More fun. More a lot of things," he said. A lot of things that is hard to put into words, and even if you could find the words, it feels like ripping open one's chest to really dig into. 'Fun' is a nice way to put it. "Well, you'll have a lot more friends here too! You've already got at least one," he said, pointing at himself with a thumb.
"Ooooh, that's a nice way to celebrate. We usually just celebrated with contracts fixing our house," Sonic said. The man needs to respect architecture too! At least Sonic isn't going in, planning to wreck things. "And really, whoever works the most in the garden, its their garden. Unless its dedicated to someone. Is it dedicated to you?"
"Ooooh, never seen? Yeah! My earth doesn't have us talking animals, but they do have a lot of versions of us in non-talking form. Hedgehogs, foxes, echidnas, a whole lot more. Like, uh...crocodiles, lemurs, and sheep? Pretty sure I remember those," he said, tapping his chin. "Anyway! Non-talking, a whole lot walk around on four legs, not very smart. Not in an insulting way, just in an animal who doesn't know like...complex communication," he said. "They're pretty cute though."
no subject
The psychokinetic was all smiles as Sonic stated that he was a friend. He honestly couldn't imagine not being a friend with any version of Sonic. "I don't think it was dedicated to me! Though I've heard people call it 'Silver's Garden'. I started it, and Blaze helped me out and I got better at looking after it as time went on. Everyone chipped in to help with harvest time though! Besides, I welcomed any help if anyone wanted to join me in the garden."
Silver was quiet as he digested what Sonic was saying about animal animal versions of their species. He zipped alongside his new friend as they streaked through town. "That's actually pretty cool!" He said finally. "I know there's animals on my Earth, though not as many in my time period." At least, not in his part of the world. "I'd love to see these pokemon and a non talking Earth hedgehog sometime!"
no subject
"I dunno, sounds pretty dedicated," Sonic said with a grin. "Gotta have a special place carved out for you. Is Blaze good with plants?"
"I can show you Pokemon later," Sonic said, finally starting to slow down. "Hedgehog-hedgehog we'll have to see. I suppose I could use a Wishing Dandelion...maybe not for a real hedgehog, but that might get people existential, but I did have a hedgehog stuffed toy that was pretty accurate," he said, moving a more residential area and towards a house with a lot of flowers.
no subject
He zipped around a corner after Sonic and did a flip just in time to hear the other hedgehog's question about Blaze. "Well, she told me she doesn't know that much. But she sure taught me a lot when it comes to gardens! She was able to use her powers to help add ash to the soil and make it more fertile with more nutrients. I had no idea that was a thing!"
Silver followed Sonic into a more residential neighbourhood and slowed down alongside him. He had to grin though at the thought of Sonic with an earth accurate hedgehog plushie. "Hey wow you really live here?" The house was huge! At least compared to what he was used to. "Nice flowers!" He landed on the front lawn and the cyan glow faded from around him as he stood there with hands on his hips and admiring the place.
no subject
"Oooooh, yeah! Something about burning stuff makes for better soil. Dunno the science of it, but its part of why forest fires and like lava isn't all bad. Just dangerous if you're alive at the time of it happening," he said. Something something, burning stuff to enrich the soil, it was good to know, living in Montana and around so many much forest.
"Yeah!" He said, slowing down as they reach the front yard. "Older Shadow and Sonic are the ones who had the house, but they invited Shadow and me to live here," he said and gestured to the place. "Welcome to Hedgehaus! I will get them to call it that eventually."
