Test Drive Meme #15

Test Drive Meme #15
LOGS | NETWORK | OOC | MEMES | NAVIGATION
You arrive in an unknown space, dressed in white clothes (player choice what kind of clothes, as long as they cover everything). Whatever was happening to you before no longer happens. It's like everything was put on a pause and you were transferred away from the situation without you realizing it happened.
The space that you find yourself in is one of these four options:
An empty landscape filled with snow and ice, almost like a blank canvas.
A field with cherry blossom trees and spring flowers.
A sunny beach near an ocean that seems never ending.
A quiet forest with falling autumn leaves.
All of the spaces seem to continue endlessly. No matter where or how far you walk it almost seems like you're not moving at all. There are no animals here - just those who happened to wake up there at the same time, in the same place. Everyone is wearing the same kind of plain, white clothes.
Despite the possible rollercoaster of emotions you might be feeling, the place somehow feels familiar. Like somehow you belong there.
And it looks like you're not alone.
After half an hour has passed the surroundings change as everyone is teleported into a room with all the other new arrivals, no matter what space they woke up in. It's a large place with plenty of seats to sit in and beverages to enjoy. Medical attention is offered to those who need it and the doctors here are very prepared for any challenging situations.
Here, in this room, everyone gets an answer to where they are and why. A hologram of a man appears at the center of the room, waiting to be heard. He brings a message on behalf of the leaders of Ellipsa. The staff nearby tells them that the message has finally been properly updated from the original one that can still be found from the records.
The Message [ Click to Expand ]
Hello, my name is Olwen. I'm one of the leaders of Ellipsa as it currently is. I'm also one of the four who summoned you here.
Our world is in trouble and we need your help. I apologize for tearing you away from your world and forcing you to come here but I hope you understand. The magic we used doesn't let us ask in advance, nor does it let us choose who we bring here. We wouldn't have resorted to it if we weren't desperate. Our world has lost the majority of power holders who kept the balance in our world and dealt with the dangers of the Segments. Just having one power holder for each Season isn't enough. That's why we have summoned you to become the new Seasonal Power Holders.
This world is composed of four Seasonal Segments. All of them represent one of the seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. They were the places we used to get our resources from, but now they're dangerous places no one should go into unless they have the power to fight back. All of them have their own sets of powerful monsters and natural catastrophes. We have recently managed to regain some footing in the segments and made them safer, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The Darkness still plagues our world, but we are constantly finding ways to fight back.
Otherworlders like you have already made great differences to the world. They have managed to find and free the dragons who in turn helped us expand the area we live in. They also managed to find the Fairy Queen and even the Mermaids and Sirens of the Great Ocean Lake are at peace due to the efforts of a few otherworlders. All of these things we couldn't have accomplished with just four power holders.
My sincere wish is that you would join us in working towards saving this world. We promise to send you home afterwards, or enable a way to travel to your world and back, as a compensation for your efforts here. You're even free to stay here, if that suits you better. This world can also be yours.
I know we're asking you a lot and that it might be hard to trust someone who just talks as a hologram, but you are always free to approach us at our guilds to talk in person.
In the arrival's hall there are also several stands with information pamphlets.
First type of stand is for the local Guilds and about the benefits of joining one.
Second type of stand is for the Welcome Center that aim to show otherworlders what the world is like and help guide people in the beginning of the journey and helps in getting settled into the new world. They even have people to help if you're unfamiliar with the new phones.
Third type of a stand has various pamphlets about businesses opened by otherworlders.
Once you get your smartphone and necessary information, you're urged to go out and find your apartment. After that whatever you want to do is up to you.
The building next door is where everyone can find their new apartments. As you enter, you're told by a friendly native that for the first two months you can live anywhere rent-free and five meals a day are paid for you. After that they get a monthly payment that helps with some of their living expenses, but otherwise they have to have a job to support themselves.
All of the apartments are comfortable, two bedroom apartments with all necessary utilities. They are also completely soundproof. Sometimes the magic system, however, does glitch and you might find yourself rooming with a stranger. This is not the intention and the staff will immediately prepare you a room of your own. But maybe having a roommate isn't all that bad?
The locals have taken upon themselves to advertise the Welcome Center that is run mostly by otherworlders. Newcomers are encouraged to visit it, but sometimes the people might think someone who has been a while is new.
Inside one finds a modern Japanese style lobby with plenty of sofas, soft seats and cushions to sit on. Anyone is welcome to just sit around and eat some home-made snacks. There are also computers for searching information and practicing technology skills. There's usually someone behind the front desk, but if no one seems to be there they might be in the kitchen behind the front desk area.
Upstairs there are many rooms that can be into familiar places for characters (not exactly the same, but similar) with futuristic technology. It's set up to help fight any homesickness and provide a quiet place to relax.
One bonus the Welcome Center provides is a gift basket with some treats, basic ingredients for making meals and some gift cards for the Underground Mall, to possibly shop for new clothes or other necessary items. All of these have been donated by volunteers to help newcomers settle in.
Of course the people working here are always looking for new volunteers to help around! There are plenty of things to do, all in the name of making otherwolders' arrival to a new world more comfortable.
The City of Nightwake has seen better days. Windows and fixtures are broken, plants are damaged, roads are charred, rubble and garbage litter the streets with some bloodstains in the alleys and sometimes even in the open. Anyone asked will explain that in late May, a number of crises all happened at once, and while things are calm again, parts of the city are still rebuilding.
Magical and mundane repair help of all kinds is requested by various civilian homes and businesses. Anyone who answers the calls for help can be put to work repairing and restoring any items and buildings, replacing windows, repairing doors, building things, and/or cleaning up messes. Any help is appreciated... especially since people are reporting random garbage falling on them from nowhere, thanks to an ongoing quest!
Anyone who volunteers will also be able to learn a new spell that allows them to repair their clothing or armour on the go. Handy when you're out in the Segments and can't just go to the blacksmith!
City council has coordinated the cleanup effort, and snack stations have cropped up near big repair sites so volunteers can get water and food. The snacks vary from place to place, but are always something popular in the district they're in; for example, a stand in Sunwaning might provide curry pan or taiyaki, Dayrise might have fried fish or cream-filled buns, or Coldreach might let you come in for chips or deep-fried pickles.
June and July is also the time of the Solstice, a traditional Ellipsan holiday, and just because everything is in shambles doesn't mean people aren't celebrating. While volunteers take breaks at the snack stations, they're encouraged to weave flower crowns with provided cut flowers that are already enchanted to last longer. Plenty of civilians are already out on the street wearing theirs!
While it's common to make your own flower crown, people are also encouraged to exchange flower crowns with others. Some natives might urge anyone who tries to pay attention to flower language when doing so. After all, while not everyone knows flower language, a crown that says "nice to meet you, can we be friends" is very different from one that says "I hope you lose your fortune" or, for that matter, "elope with me"!
With summer just around the corner, word gets around that there's going to be a giant beach party in Solarpeak. The natives see this as another way to thank the otherworlders for their continual efforts to help across Ellipsa. So, just a couple days before it starts, everyone will receive a message inviting them to come to Solarpeak and join in on the festivities and enjoy the decor and events that they'll be hosting.
Upon entering Solarpeak, visitors will see everything looks ike it's part of the party. There's stalls with a variety of savory foods, drinks, desserts, and frozen treats. Otherworlders can totally find their favorite summer treats in the assortment - the natives did their research!
There's also several events scattered in the sandy landscape and in the pool itself. In the pool - there's floaties, pool noodles, and a variety of fun pool games. On land there's an inflated obstacle course, slip-n-slides, a water gun fight arena, and beach volleyball set up. Party goers are also encouraged to start up their own activities Don't worry - there's plenty of shady spots to relax, too!
Oh - and don't miss the giant bonfire everyday at dark! The bonfire will also include sparklers and smores.
As part of the summer event, Sage Blaze is hosting a cooking competition. Sage is the most recent winner of one of Ellipsa's televised cooking competition shows – Culinary Quest. This competition isn't just about being the best chef, either, it's about learning how to cook with love. Sage will be showing anyone who wants to participate how to make sure that the chefs are cooking with feeling – literally!
People who are tasting the food of the participants will be able to taste the feelings of that participants in the food. That means a dish made with love have a boost in flavor, and if the same dish is made with hate it'll be noticeably less tasty.
While there's no real winner in the competition, participants will walk away with a handy new trick. Sage may also call out when they feel a dish is especially tasty or creative – as long as they can taste the love!

Fix-It Crew
[Stuff likes to break around him. He knows he can't help it, but it doesn't mean he likes it! Its nice to be able to fix stuff. Plus he can get around and move things fast, even if the repair part takes a little longer. It keeps him busy, he helps people, its nice.]
[He's moving on to another section when he hears the sound of meals. Oooooh, moving a lot of stuff, he can go help with-]
[He stops as he sees who has the cart.]
Tokyo Drift?!
no subject
At this point, I'm not even surprised that you're here. [There is something, noticeably missing though.] Your friends here too?
no subject
[What even is protocol.]
....no. My friends aren't here.
[But he should suss out how Stone feels about-] Shadow is though.
no subject
Thinking about it all, the events still fresh in his mind...seeing this hedgehog is alive, and not the doctor is...too soon. He shakes his head. That is somewhere else and not here. For now, this hedgehog is not the enemy.]
Shadow? [He sounds a little surprise to hear that. Unlike Sonic and his colorful friends, Shadow, while another hedgehog, doesn't bring him anger. He can't be absolutely sure, but the few times they spoke, it feels like he was just going along with whatever Gerald told him to do. Another caught in the Professor's trap. He hums quietly.]
He never did get to try my gauc. [Thanks Tails. He lets out some air, hands on his hips. So they both made it out alive, is what he's understanding here.] Is he doing all right? Ah, of course he is. You're both superpower hedgehogs.
no subject
[Taking in his reaction. He doesn't seem like he's lying....]
[Good. Good, he can work with that.]
I don't think he's gotten to have guac here yet. Which is a shame. Guac is good and is a fun word to say.
I mean, he can still be hurt and he was definitely injured after what happened. He showed up here kinda crispy. More than I was from re-entry.
Amazing how durable we are! Didn't know those were survivable things, but the surprise, the superpowered Hedgehogs might be kinda OP. [He said with jazz hands.]
But that was months ago and he's healed up now. Bit of a bookworm, its kind of adorable. [A pause.] I can ask if he wants to see you. He's kind of got...you know. [He waves a hand.] A lot of intense feelings about all that went down, but if you're cool with him, and he's cool, then could have a guac party of some kind. I do have some telenovelas on DVD, Knuckles was really into 'em.
[He is absolutely rambling.]
no subject
Sounds like he's being well looked after. [Kid kept to himself a lot. Never really asked for anything or talked about what he liked. Always just focused on the mission. The one time he left on La Última Pasión was where he got a better idea of Shadow. Just an outcast like the rest of them, gone through his share of pain to be the way he is. Maybe that's why the hedgehog never bothered him. He shakes his head.]
He's been here for months, with all that time to try some and he hasn't? [You're slacking hedgehog. A wave of his hand.]
Ah, don't trouble him. But if there is a guac party, I'll make time in my schedule. [Stone you have all the time now.] Not to brag but- [If he was wearing a suit, he be adjusting it to make him seem more impressive.] I can make a mean guac. But uh...it's really just you two? No one else? [Because things might turn awkward if more of Sonic's allies are around. He can't really be seen fraternizing with the enemy currently not enemy too much!]
no subject
I'll let you know. When we're having movie night. Or viewing party, for telenovelas. [A peace offering! Of sorts![
Yeah, just us, unless you count my dog. [A pause.] There are...alternates. Two other Shadows, another Sonic. If you pay attention, its pretty easy to spot the difference. The others are a bit taller, or a lot taller in one case, not as fluffy. So like alternates usually look like really similar cousins.
[Which leads to the complication.]
They don't seem to know...a ton of humans personally. Their Earth has had our species on it longer than they really know about, a whole coexistence thing, maybe both from there, I dunno. But I've mentioned you once or twice and no recognition.
There is...one human they all know though.
Him. [He's sure he doesn't need to specify WHO.]
He, uh.....he has an alternate....here.
[He thinks it would be cruel for Stone to be blindsided by it.]
no subject
Just give me ample notice. Gotta make sure I grab the freshest ingredients. [A truce...all for the black hedgehog. Oh, they've been chatting too long already. And he's not, stopping anytime soon. Because unfortunately, this is the first and only person he's seen here that's from the same place as him.
His curious expression gradually turns into a frown. Brows going so low as he starts to mention "alternates". ]
Nothing personal-- maybe it is a little, but did there really need to be more of you two? [A hand press against the side of his head. This is the doctor's worse nightmare if he were here.
...Here.
He glances back at the blue hedgehog. What did he say just now? Brows raising when he realizes what the rodent was trying to tell him. There is a Doctor Robotnik here. Not his, but still a Robotnik. And he can't help, but feel some kind of relief? Is that what it is? Bitter happiness? Quietly.]
Really...? Does...does he know a me? [Sonic mentioning the others didn't recognize him by name concerns him. Did this Robotnik have an assistant like him where they're from, or...was he without one in their world? Alone? Are they all right? It's not even his Robotnik he's asking these questions in his head, but they come to him naturally when it concerned the Doctor.]
no subject
[(Just because he can deal with individual agents okay does not detract from being hunted and ignoring him begging for Tails to get medical attention. And now Everything Shadow.)]
Can do. There's a few people to inform, can't be all loosey goosey about it. [He gives a little salute.]
[He quirks an eyebrow and a hand goes to his heart.] Oh, don't I feel the love. [Full dramatic sarcasm.] I feel weird about it. The fun house mirrors are real and I keep having Shadows who want to throw me around. But one of those things to roll with.
[Ah. The more delicate situation.]
I didn't ask him directly. We haven't talked a ton. We do have a tenuous truce, hedgehogs and Eggman. Death isn't permanent here, he has to build his resources from scratch, Sonic believes people can be better given a chance, etc etc, seeing how it goes.
My impression is their animosity is slightly different. One, hedgehogs known, no need to dissect. Two, it's less he just wants his Sonic gone as he wants to be sure HE'S the one who gets him gone by being better than him other just wanting him wiped off the face of the Earth however it happens. Sonic is his foe to destroy.
Makes for some rules of engagement we never had back home.
But...
I have talked to Sage and she didn't recognize you.
She's his AI daughter in one of these universes. Unclear if she's with this Eggman directly back home, but he's close enough they are bonded.
We protected Sage at our house during a whole big thing recently, led to a more formal truce. Especially since we have alternate Maria here too and Eggman cares about her and she is collecting Shadows like Pokemon cards.
[He looks over Stone. Makes a guess.] So I don't think he's been totally isolated. Still madman with robot obsession and long-term conquering goals, but he has had at least some people in his life.
no subject
There are things familiar, and things aren't. As Sonic puts it, still the mad genius he admires, but it sounds like this one managed to find others. Sage is certainly an interesting one he would like to meet. Admittedly, he was never as obsessed with world domination as the Doctor. He was happy as long as the Doctor was, finding kinship with another who didn't fit in with the rest of society. It was...difficult to watch the doctor start to spiral once he met the blue rodent before him.]
Have either of you Sonics maybe considered....[Making hand gestures.] You're the reason for the Doctor's descent to madness? [He couldn't help it. Sure, some people didn't like the Doctor before, but he wasn't labeled a criminal for just doing what the authorities wanted him to do. From the sound of things, the other Doctor seems to have a similar hate for their blue hedgehog. He takes in some air, shoulders slouching.]
Well...I'd still like to meet him, and Sage. And- [...Wait a minute. A brow raise when realize Sonic said something that didn't make a whole lot of sense.] You said Maria is here?
no subject
But I spent years hiding and running. He was the one who didn't let up when he caught a hint of me.
And as Shadow proved, I was right in being paranoid.
I'm not going to apologize for not wanting to be treated as a tool at best, but probably killed since they had a sudden spare.
And even I have to admit, Robotnik wasn't someone I could play around with to get off my back. He kept up. Not many can do that. He wasn't giving me a ton of options.
[His expression softens.] And Gerald was going to happen no matter what. [A station like that isn't built in less than two years.] At least he realized there was someone who cared with the way things played out. For such a smart guy, kind of slow on the uptake there.
[He nods.] Time is all weird. Shadow is right after the explosion. I'm a few months.
....I dunno if other Shadow get the popsicle treatment, but the way he's about Maria... [He frowns, looking to the side.] That part is consistent.
I don't think Maria knows, exactly, when it happens, if she knows it does. This Maria is sick. I'm not sure ours was.
no subject
...But he also has ears, and can hear what Sonic is telling him back. Stone is a good listener if anything. How else does he know what the Doctor wants at nearly all times? He hangs his head, shaking it for a moment.]
Look, I'm not going to downplay your side of things, but...just know he was a different man before he got involved with you. [People will say the doctor is a lot of things, but no one will ever understand him as well as he does. A quiet realiztion.]
...In the end, we're all victims because of someone else. [What if Robotnik was never given that order to come after Sonic? Would things remain as is, and Sonic would never have to go through all that? Or will someone else just come along anyway? Possibilities that are no longer an option open to them. Time has moved on and things are just how they are now.]
I wasn't inform much about Gerald's granddaughter to know if she was sick or not. Just that she meant a lot to him and Shadow. [...] And if someone like her can be here, then that means....so can he. [Sorry, Sonic. Losing the doctor without being there, with only a message on a big screen as his farewell? It didn't give the closure he wanted.]
no subject
[It didn't like thinking about how cruel it might have been. He avoided the mushroom planet as long as he did for a reason. He hadn't wanted to go to such a place where it was lonely and didn't even have the advantages of the distractions of Earth.]
GUN only got me if I made a mistake or bad luck. I could deal with GUN most of the time, the problem with them is just too many to ever deal with fully.
He could actually just win.
[And Sonic finally had something to LOSE beyond his life. He might not have a lot of positive opinions about Robonik, but when it came to actual threats that wasn't reliant on numbers, or Sonic's emotions, it had only really been Robotnik amongst humans so far.]
But it would have been nice to be different.
Gotta say, I keep getting more and more annoyed with GUN. They were involved in him coming after me. They imprisoned and drove his grandpa insane, and from what Shadow says, Gerald might have actually been a good grandpa before the whole killing his granddaughter and locking him away for fifty. GUN caused what happened to Maria. [He's gotten more context on THAT little situation thanks to memory sharing, though he can't say he's SURPRISED.]
They keep on not respecting aliens as people and instead just assets to use.
Like a lot of these problems wouldn't have even happened if GUN chilled out for like two seconds and were like 'hey, maybe we can just talk like normal and respectful people.' Oh sure, we'll release a super genius who made us a weapon after fifty years of false imprisonment and not think that's a problem, but a teenage hedgehog who fought a giant robot out of the goodness of his heart? Oh yeah, I'm definitely the thing that doesn't deserve a benefit of a doubt. [There is actually a small growl in his chest at that.]
[GOD, GUN is just trying his patience.]
And honestly, with Gerald as a factor, I just immediately don't trust they didn't manipulate something around Eggman.
[He sighs.]
...honestly, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to find out he somehow didn't die. I'm pretty sure Shadow was starting to absorb some of the cannon's energy, he had one of my quills and I was on god mode, secret third mad genius option. Not sure I'm gonna believe he's dead until I see a body. [Fool me once, twice, and all that.]
But he could also show up here. With time being weird. Especially since we've been getting a number of alternates.
Which...
Listen, I can't say I'm excited for that idea, but it also seems like part of his problem is he feels real lonely and just kinda lashed out at everything, so like, if he could chill out for like two minutes, I am not against more truces going on.
So just. Have that on record. I'm not against him living his life, I just don't want to be on a dissection table.
