It could be anything misheard in the coffee shop, to scribbles on a back alley that someone wrote in a fit of anger... or even just someone too loud and proud who was overheard quite easily saying the wrong thing at the wrong time!

[Hijikata could divulge why it took Reiner so long to admit (as per his assumptions), but why would he ruin the gossipy mood with such depressing information (not to mention that it's kind of bad form to dredge up people's mutual war crimes)? Instead, he'll just keep stirring the pot on a low level, posting a couple more anonymous comments in the fray.]
